Here's what some of our customers are saying about Ellie's:
"I love Ellie's! The food is delicious, and the service is wonderful! Ellie or her son always comes by the tables to say hello. My favorite dish is the gyro... Ellie makes her dumplings for chicken and dumplings from scratch and fresh, which makes the dish extra yummy. The desserts are wonderful, too! I love baklava and the banana pie."

"Ellie is a precious chef and makes delicious and authentic food. She is from Greece herself and after getting to know her from dining, I've learned she has a lot of heritage in her restaurant and many stories to share. Her son is extremely intelligent and knows what he is doing with the restaurant. Now for the food, the chicken kebab pita is my favorite! Amazing flavors. Also try the beef stroganoff! And make room for dessert because the wedding cookies and everything else are so delicious!"

"One of the best dining experiences in SE Houston. The food, all prepared with love, provides the quintessential Greek experience. After visiting Greece several years ago with a Greek friend, my friend suggested that I visit Ellie's, home of some of the best Greek food in Houston. Our family has fallen in love with this restaurant and its staff. The staff is down-home friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed. The business has grown so much that Ellie has expanded to the building next door. An artist has decorated the entire restaurant with murals depicting Ellie's home in Greece. From the school bus she used to ride in to school each day, to a mural of her grandmother's bedroom, the artwork allows the guest to catch a peek of Ellie's Greek childhood.
Ellie and her son, Rob visit with the customers often and provide a friendly hello when not too busy... The appetizers are delicious and the desserts yummy. Her banana butterscotch pie is heavenly! She has a delicious Shrimp and Artichoke soup. The Gyros are excellent as the meat is tender and succulent.Ellie also offers catering and has an extended menu from which to choose. I've had several large groups and parties eat at Ellie's and all of my friends become loyal customers!"

"The chicken kebab pita is awesome, but my favorite is the beef stroganoff with greek side salad and pita bread with hummus. Yum, yum, yum! There's not many tables inside, so it's best to go to eat at a non-prime time in the day. You'll probably see Ellie herself there as well, cooking away in the kitchen, and then making her rounds around the restaurant greeting all of the guests."

"The atmosphere is very cozy with all the walls being hand painted. The service was always prompt and polite. The overall capacity of the place is small so even if it is 'packed' you will never notice it. The items I tried included a soup and salad lunch, gyro sandwich lunch, and a lamb shank dinner. Each came with a side salad and the dinner came with a sample of hummus and pita bread. I think the most surprising aspect was the portions as I was stuffed and satisfied at the end of the meal."

"I had the mousaka the first time and my husband had the beef stroganoff. Both were excellent, but the mousaka has me hooked for life. I forgot to mention that the meal began with some tasty greek salads and warm pita bread and hummus. My husband isn't a salad guy and he cleaned his salad bowl completely! We wanted dessert but were too full to eat it there and took them to go, tiramissou and kataifi. I'm very particular on tiramissou since I've eaten it in italy. This was excellent. However. Chef Ellie recommended the kataifi and we tried that also. That has become my favorite dessert of all time. Today we are both having the mousaka and the kataifi. Yum!"

"My companion and I have been going to Ellie's ever since we moved to the Houston area in 2008. It is a great restaurant, and Miss Ellie visits the tables when she is there. The food is excellent. We've been there for lunch and dinner many times. My favorite soup is the tomato basil, but the other soups are good also. For lunch, we usually get the soup and 2 Greek sandwiches. My companion likes the lamb shank for dinner, and I like the beef stroganoff. If we have room for dessert, we get the Tiramissou. Prices are reasonable, and the portions are good size. We are usually too full to have dessert. We dine out often and are very familiar with prices and portions in restaurants. All customers are treated like family here."
