Lots of New Features and a Few Bug Fixes

January 22, 2009

As you may have noticed, LetsEat.at is currently under heavy construction. The past few weeks have seen the unveiling of quite a number of new features and enhancements, as well as several bug fixes and some aesthetic changes to a few of the theme designs.

Here's a brief list of changes:

- You can now alter the font size of much of your site through My Restaurants » Font Sizes.

- You can now substitute your restaurant's logo design for the header of your site by checking 'Use logo as header' at My Restaurant » Your Logo. Depending on the dimensions of your current logo image, you may have to re-upload the file to have it size correctly to fit. The space allotted for your restaurant's logo is 550 pixels wide and 90 pixels tall, although any size smaller than that will work fine too. There is some basic resizing built in, but you may have to do some alteration in Photoshop or whatever software you use for graphics. Unfortunately, due to the way this had to be implemented, a few of the theme designs have been altered. Apologies go out to anyone who has been inconvenienced by this.

- There are now options to delete the 'Front Page Picture' as well as your logo in the event that you no longer want them posted.

- Menu items can now have multiple prices and sizes/variants listed (i.e. Small, Medium, Large, or Glass, Pint, Pitcher). All you need to do to add more prices to an item is click on 'Add price field' in the 'Edit Menu Item' page for a menu item.

- There is now an 'Advanced' tab in My Restaurant. Right now, it only has one feature, but it's a good one: if you own a domain name (i.e. example.com), you can now connect it directly to the site. Previously, the only option for custom domain usage with LetsEat.at has involved using something called 'domain masking' or 'domain redirection', but now you have the option of pointing your custom domain's CNAME at LetsEat.at and having real URL redirection. In a nutshell, this means www.LetsEat.at/YourRestaurant/menu can now be www.yourrestaurant.com/menu. There are more detailed directions on that page (My Restaurant » Advanced). Unfortunately, due to the wide variety of domain registrar configurations, LetsEat.at does not offer any support for this feature. More documentation will be available in the help section soon for more popular registrars, such as Godaddy and Register.com.

There's much more waiting in the pipeline, so expect to see some major new features in the coming weeks. As always, if you come across any bugs, feel free to report problems.
