The interior of Lefkada is every bit as stunning as the coast, so it would be a wasted visit to stay in Lefkada without experiencing the magic of the mountains. There is something enchanting about the atmosphere up there that really cannot be described or conveyed by photos, so you have to see for yourself. A trip to Vafkeri is an ideal way to do this; it's a 15 min drive from Nidri and there's a great viewpoint half way up offering unrivalled views across Nidri and out to sea.

Once at Vafkeri, The Katoghi is a "must-do" for coffee, lunch or dinner (we did all three!). Park at the church on the main road in Vafkeri and look for the yellow sign for The Katoghi pointing you down a traditional cobbled lane. A few houses down, you will see the bright blue shutters of The Katoghi. The terrace gives superb views of the mountains and is filled with flowers and plants; a huge mulberry tree in the centre gives shade over the tables, and the smell of jasmine and rose (to name but a few) is divine. We went in the Spring when the sun and flowers were out so the terrace was heaven, but I imagine the inside of the restaurant would be lovely if it's cooler or in winter, with it's traditional, thick, stone walls and open fireplace, it's very cosy and atmospheric.

The food is mostly home-grown and all home-cooked, and is utterly delicious for it. I particularly enjoyed the Aubergine, Feta & Honey starter, and couldn't resist desserts! The restaurant owners make great hosts and are welcoming and informative, giving us tips on the best places to visit during our holiday (we'd have missed Porto Katsiki without them, which turned out to be the most beautiful beach I've ever seen!)

I spent the best evening our our holiday, and one of the most magical evenings ever, at the Katoghi. After a delectable dinner we sat on the headily flower-scented terrace in the balmy evening air, sipping their homemade Mandarin liqueur and watching pink lightning roll around over the mainland in the distance, while fireflies danced in the garden in front of us. A memory I will treasure for ever.

Thanks very much to the Katoghi, we'll be back as soon as we can!

This is a simply gorgeous little place for a leisurely lunch or evening meal. Well off the beaten track in the lush green mountains of Lefkas, it offers simple but beautifully made food (the chocolate and coconut mousse was the best I've ever had) in stunning surroundings, with amazing views. The best possible taste in every sense - a real find, just magical.

Dear Peter & Alison
We had a great holiday, made all the more enjoyable by Alison's cooking and Peter's warm hospitality. Villa Mystiko wouldn't be the same without The Katoghi.

We really enjoy Lefkada, as you probably worked out, and at some point I'm sure wee'll make a return visit, and if so, can you hold the usual table for us!
Thanks for your kind hospitality, especially on the last night, which we really enjoyed.

Hello there in Lefkada ,
back home in northern Germany I'm looking at the pictures from your Katoghi , remembering the last week as we sat there with all the wind in our hair and our meal .
It was delicious and worth to remember for comming back to Vafkeri at our next stop near Lefkada .

Still thinking with pleasure of your good kitchen and the marvellous view from your terrace! Just gave several friends of mine who are sailing Lefkada the advice where they get the best food on the whole island!
